In a tube furnace, thermal blocks primarily function to localize heat concentration around the furnace tube, preventing excessive heat from escaping to the surrounding components like the furnace casing and flanges, thus ensuring a more uniform temperature distribution within the tube and protecting critical seals from damage due to extreme heat; essentially acting as a heat shield and maintaining the integrity of the furnace system by minimizing thermal stress on the surrounding parts. 

MTI corporation provides the high quality Alumina (Al₂O₃ ) foam block for high temperature tubing furnaces in universities, companies, and national labs.

 It comes with the specifications as the following:

• Max. working temperature:  < 1700ºC
• Diameter:  90 mm (3.54") ± 2mm (0.08")
• Length:     65 mm (2.56") ± 2mm (0.08")
• The block must be put in the place between sample and flange..
• Fit MTI's OTF-1200X-4 Quartz Tube Furnace, and GSL1700-100X Bench-top High Temperature Tubing Vacuum Furnace.

Application Note:

• To prevent dust-falling issue and ensure a cleaning process, it is suggested to apply a thin layer of alumina adhesive material on the surface of the foam block. Please click underline to order.
• For direct delivery of precursor gasses over the heating zone, customer may drill a hole in the alumina block for sticking a 1/4" O.D. quartz (<1200ºC) or alumina (<1700ºC) tube to deliver gas into the furnace tube center. Porous alumina block is very soft and it can be hand-drilled through easily.
