EQ-SP-MSM130 is a mini-arc melting with/without vacuum casting furnace, which can be placed inside a glovebox for air-sensitive materials. It is a smart and compact tool to melt air-sensitive alloy, refractory metal tube seals, and vacuum casting. With additional add-ons, it can also be used outside of the glovebox as the conventional arc melting and vacuum casting furnace.

  • A water-cooled copper hearth has 4 small cavities for alloy melting of  4 x 8 g up to 2500ºC max
  • The central tube holder allows refractory tube seals, such as Ta, Nb, and Mo.
  • 6.6 " ID (168 mm) quartz chamber for observation and protection. 
  • Easy electrode tilting and height adjustment
  • Compact footprint: can put in a standard Ar gas glovebox with a purification system
  • The power and water feedthrough will be provided for the glovebox version. 
  • Vacuum suction casting 4 mm Dia. The sucking force is generated by evacuating the bottom cold copper casting mold. This results in rapid solidification of the melt which is ideal for reducing the shrinkage cavity defects.

Vacuum casting (Optional)

 

 

  • The water-cooled casting mold by vacuum suction is available upon request at the extra cost
  • The casting mold is made of copper and only can be located underneath one of the cavity
  • The standard casting mold is for the rod of 6 mm dia x 50 mm L. Other size rods (3-5 mm) are available
  • The casting mold kit includes all necessary components as the picture below for immediate use

For use under ambient conditions only
 
  • For the product option of ambient condition, a few additional parts will be added. 
    • Valves and fittings for gas inlet and outlet.
    • Stainless steel protection box with eye protection cover. 
    • Vacuum valve and fittings
    • Feedthroughs will be removed. 
Vacuum Pump
(Optional)
  • The vacuum pump is optional and the vacuum level is dependent on the vacuum pump used:
  • 10^-3 torr via a mechanical/roughing pump. (Roughing Pumps
  • 10^-5 torr via a turbopump. We recommend our Turbomolecular Pumping Station for the best performance 
Application Notes
  • High-purity inert gas with at least 5N purity (> 99.999%) is required (not included)
  • 5% Hydrogen + 95% Argon gas may be used to prevent oxidation during the melting process.
